HHV RUN
Stories From the New York Marathon
30th October: It is 3 p.m., just a couple of days before the gun goes off to start the New York Marathon, and we are boarding a flight to be part of the action.
31st October: Day 1 started with the creation of a group chat. From locals to friends from around the globe, we agreed to meet at the entrance to Prospect Park at 8 am for a couple of loops to shake off the jet lag and shake out the legs ahead of the Sunday race. Post run we met with the team over at Mental Athletic for lunch at Pepe Rosso where we talked brands, NYC tips & tricks, and what would be worn on Sunday.

1st November: The shake out before the shake out… leaving our accommodation in the East Village, we split the streets of Manhattan through Times Square to meet the New Balance Team at Columbus Circle. After seeing some friendly faces among the hundreds who had met to run, we jumped into the subway to meet the team over at Glue Factory for a more intimate run around Brooklyn. Naturally, we retreated in the evening for some pizza at Scars to top up the calorie count.

2nd November: Where Music meets Running… Starting the day with a special shakeout hosted by the man himself Action Bronson we took to the streets of LES before heading west to meet the team at Home Run for some breakfast bagels. Lunchtime was special as we had been invited to celebrate the launch of Baklava by Action Bronson, from teriyaki burgers to fresh oysters Bronson had us covered.

3rd November: It’s more than just running. Upon arriving in New York a couple of days prior, someone said to me that the Marathon is the one day a year in NYC where everyone comes together! Regardless of background, religion, or nationality, the city cheers for everyone. Starting the morning on Bedford Avenue in Brooklyn, we grabbed a bagel and cheered on the elites. It was then into McCarran Park just before the half marathon marker where the atmosphere could be felt! Our final cheer zone was just before kilometre 40 where the rolling hills of Central Park forced the runners to give it their all to cross the line… and this is what they did, friends, family, runners, and workers stood strong and cheered as the runners crossed the finishing line!

4th November: Medal Monday, this just means day 1 of training for the next race.
