‘When we say dream On, we actually deliver!’

THE ROGER Pro BEAMS by On & BEAMS isn’t just a product, it’s personal! When the collaboration discussions began in October of 2022 On was looking to work with Japanese retailer, brand, collaborator and all round powerhouse BEAMS on a running silhouette…

During their first call it however became apparent BEAMS didn’t see it like this. Only minutes into the call Shingo Arai was sharing a video he had received of Roger Federer himself spurring on his son and wishing him the best in his tennis efforts. Here it must be noted that Shingo himself was an elite tennis athlete.

As this conversation went on and it was defined that the collection would be based around THE ROGER Pro performance tennis shoe which was initially co-created by Roger himself. It wasn’t long before he also joined in on this project making sure he was hands on and following each step and decision along the way.

‘Roger is central to the whole project! Roger himself got to see the very first sample pair’

Not only was THE ROGER Pro selected due to Shingo’s personal connection to Roger and tennis but BEAMS aimed to work on a product that could cater to their diverse consumer. A product although designed for on-court use that doesn’t look out of place on the streets of Zurich, Tokyo or Berlin. THE ROGER Pro was perfect for this!

This idea continues into the apparel of the collection which feature a Track Jacket, Track Pants, Shorts & Relaxed-T. Each of these items uniquely designed to meet the BEAMS-Fit’ with the purpose of being worn on-court.

‘American lifestyle is a driving focus of BEAMS’

The colourways seen throughout pay homage to the iconic history of tennis advertisements & sponsorships which play along with the americana style and focus.

From the subtle gold hints to the classic court green, the eco-system of tennis is embedded in this collection.

‘This will not be a one-off thing!’

When asking what’s next for On x BEAMS I was told this project was filled full with passionate individuals constantly bringing new ideas to the table and THE ROGER Pro is just a starting point.

‘The Passion for tennis isn’t going anywhere’

Not only do both teams share passion which can be seen through the first collaboration collection but there is a high level of respect between all involved.

‘Respect is mutual’

If Shingo & Roger will ever go head-to-head on the court is yet to be answered but I for one would spectate!
