Who are you, where are you from, what do you do – and what do you do when you’re not doing that?
Hello, I’m Wilson and I’m originally from Glasgow. I am the founder of 114 Index, a moodboard Instagram account turned creative agency that connects culture, performance and a functional lifestyle. There’s not really much difference between when I’m working and not working, I’ve sort of turned the life I want to live into a career which is extremely fortunate. Outwith that though, I’m passionate about good food and a proper social in the pub.
What inspires you to be yourself and dress the way you do? Are there people, music, or places that influence you?
I sort of just take it as I go in terms of inspiration, really. I can’t really say I’ve got too much of a set influence within my personal style, at least now nowadays as I mature. I’m a big believer in inspiration is all around us and it can come from absolutely anywhere so long as we keep our minds open to it. For example, something so much as the colour scheme of a cars paint and it’s chosen interior has been the foundation for putting together an outfits in similar tones that I’d never have thought of just looking at my wardrobe. Or listening to a song and feeling the beat pattern and certain bridges or drops has influenced the way I cut video clips into the final product before I’ve ever shot anything.
Which Berlin district represents your style best and why? Can you recommend any cafés or restaurants in Berlin? Where do you like to go when you need to unwind or get creative?
Interesting question, but I think Friedrichshain probably. I quite enjoy the vibe around that neighborhood whenever I visit and I’ve always had good coffee and food there. And some good stores too. However, every time I’m in the city I always hit up SOFI for a coffee and a bun, that’s just a given. I also recently had a meal at Bertie for the first time, which was outstanding— so get that on your lists if you visit. Whenever I need to unwind and get creative I just move as much as I can. Good movement relaxes and clears the brain and I’ve always found it to put in a state of creativity.
What’s next? If you had to predict a trend for the next few years, what would it be?
We’re getting pretty deep into the whole low-profile footwear trend now which I can see sticking around for quite a while as the majority of consumers catch up to the earlier wave of adoptees. Brands like Puma are really leading the charge there. To be honest I feel like people are slowly beginning to escape traditional trend cycles now, there’s been too much pushed on us for too long that the information overload and pressure to “keep up” has gotten too overwhelming. From circles I associate in, most people seem to just be adopting what’s good for them in their lifestyle— which has been turning more and more health focussed for years now, but it’s really creeping into what has traditionally been “lifestyle” or style in general. Wellbeing is the newest trend, has been the newest trend.
