Carhartt WIP presents
RELEVANT PARTIES
DFA Records
It’s time for the next round of RELEVANT PARTIES, the podcast series presented by Carhartt WIP which features in-depth conversations between music journalist Chal Ravens and the creative minds behind some of the best independent record labels in the world: The sixth episode of the series is dedicated to NYC’s DFA Records. The Juan MacLean and Shitrobot, longtime artists of the label, reminisce about its formation in New York City back in the days, in an era before social media and streaming platforms.
Founded in 2001 by the trio of Tim Goldsworthy (former producer of UNKLE and founding member of Mo’ Wax), James Murphy (LCD Soundsystem) and Jonathan Galkin, DFA Records is considered one of the most influential record labels of the 00s and has brought us some groundbreaking artists and releases over the past 20 years. The Rapture, Hercules And Love Affair, Hot Chip, Yacht, LCD Soundsystem, The Juan MacLean, Shitrobot and Larry Gus are just a few of them. DFA masters a wide variety of genres and stands for eclectic sounds, in which a lot of variety can be found from art rock to pop to dance music and shoegaze.
