Carhartt WIP presents
Last month we introduced RELEVANT PARTIES, a podcast series by Carhartt WIP that portrays the best independent record labels worldwide and provides fascinating insights into their influential creative cosmos. Who are the people behind the labels? How did it all start and how crazy do you have to be to see it through?
In the latest episode, host Chal Ravens interviews Sam Valenti IV, founder and visionary behind Ghostly International of New York City. Since 1999, Ghostly International has managed to redefine the business model record label time and again, both by enriching our music horizon with cross-genre, innovative artists such as Tycho, Shigeto and Dabrye, among others, and by creating new impulses through its multicultural platform. The Ghostly Store is a carefully curated world where besides vinyl you can also find artworks, design objects and lifestyle goods such as clothing, accessories, stationery and more. Numerous collaborations with well-known brands and artists as well as a keen sense of the zeitgeist make Ghostly a cosmos of its own, which is not only about music but also about inspiration on all levels.
Being liberated from boundaries such as genres, identities, ego or profit, Ghostly is fully committed to »art as a democratic space«. It is especially this principle that independent record labels often share, making them indispensable forces of our culture.
