Puma x Maison Kitsuné
Words: Sebastian Nicu
Today we’ve got something for the animal lovers among you: The wildcats and wild dogs have joined forces to bring you the wildest collab of the month of March. Together with les Parisiens from Maison Kitsuné, ze Germans from PUMA present a collection that will definitely make you purr.
If you search for Kitsuné in the French dictionary, you most likely won’t find anything. Although the name of the fashion / rock / electro label sounds very French – at least to a simple man like me – it is Japanese and means polar fox. We certainly don’t have to explain to you that music and fashion are practically inseparable. But maybe you’re not aware of the fact that Kitsuné is very good at both. Founded in 2002 by Gildas Loaëc and Masaya Kuroki in Paris, Kitsuné consists of the three pillars Maison Kitsuné (fashion), Kitsuné Musique and Café Kitsuné. Besides the music of artists like Wolfmother, Bloc Party or Two Door Cinema Club, the label is mainly known for its clothes with foxes on them. Visibly influenced by Paris and Tokyo, Maison Kitsuné always manages the balancing act between casual and chic in its collections.
PUMA, on the other hand, should be a household name to most people who are into sports. Founded in 1948 in Herzogenaurach by Rudolf Dassler, the company is primarily known for its performance items and sneakers. But through collaborations with brands like A Bathing Ape, KITH, Michael Lau and MCM, the Franconians have recently shown that they can also be stylish and don’t have to hide behind their little brother. Especially classic basketball shoes from PUMA have always been en vogue among members of the hip hop culture.
The capsule collection offers a variety of apparel styles, sneakers and accessories. As a special centerpiece of this collaboration, various colorways and editions of the iconic PUMA Ralph Sampson 70 featuring a rubber mudguard showcase a distinctive Japanese-inspired aesthetic. Other highlights are sleek tracksuits, hoodies, t-shirts and cargo pants as well as accessories like bucket Hats, bags and caps.
