Satisfy, the romantic approach to running
Words: Giuliano Inesi
Many artists chase purity in their creations, leading to a limiting and sometimes boring road to homogenisation. Satisfy stands apart by giving in to its influences, resulting in a truly unique brand.
But first, let’s take a step back to where it all began.
Satisfy is born from the mind of Brice Partouche who, as well as being the founder of the company, acts as its creative director. Brice grew up in the French Alps snowboarding and skateboarding. These two sports are known for the impactful artistic and visual elements of their video productions, which time, and most of all their soundtracks, have made iconic. It’s here that Brice’s taste begins to take form, as music may be the greatest inspiration for the brand he has built. More precisely everything music creates, with its groups, communities, fashions, styles, or cults. Of greatest impact is punk rock in its most complete form, which dominates entirely the lifestyle of its devotees.
In 2014 the founder begins delving into running, and through his DIY spirit, along with an immense repertoire of influences, the magic begins to happen. Satisfy is for people who like to express themselves through a variety of activities, such as climbing, hiking, biking, playing a live gig, or running the 250 miles of Cocodona.
Today the brand is involved in technical and lifestyle clothing, making use of materials of the highest quality from France, Switzerland, Italy, and Japan. While fashion is important, function is the determining factor.
If you run in clothing that rubs or you feel uncomfortable in you will never reach that state of balance between body and mind that many call “the High”. The healthy addiction that keeps us running day after day in the snow, rain or skin-scorching sun.
So now let’s take a closer look at some of the essentials that lovers of the brand should have in their closets.
We begin with Justice™, a Satisfy Trade Mark born initially for medical use. A very resilient fabric characterised by a silky feel on contact with the skin. All the shorts linings feature this material with clean cut edges, eliminating any issues with chafing and providing the athlete a great sense of freedom. Next is CloudMerino™, the thinnest wool in the world. Produced in Japan from 100% Optimo Merino wool. T-shirts of this material are excellent as a first or second layer, the hems are raw and have no seams to prevent friction while making the garment even lighter, definitely a must-have. Last but not least are the great classics, AuraLite™, a very light fabric, great for warm weather and practically unnoticeable during activities, and the GhostFleece™ in Polartec® Power Grid™ for colder climates.
All this technologies are continuously tested by professional athletes such as Stian Dahl Sommerseth who put in miles and miles in training, expeditions, races and FKTs to test products in their development phase.
(So I decided to simply end this article by asking him something.)
Hi Stian, do you feel like the garments you wear during extremely tough activities help express who you are? What binds you the most to the essence of Satisfy?
Stian – “Satisfy garment uniquely plays to the strengths of both individuality and communality. As a brand, they know exactly who they are and where they come from. There are so many of us who relate to that culture of street, skate, punk, fashion, which is apparent in their clothing and their branding. They enable us to express ourselves with how we dress in a race the same way we are able to express ourselves at a concert or the skate park, without compromising on quality and function. This way, Satisfy have brought together a community of like-minded people from all around the world by letting them be exactly who they are on the trails, on the roads, in the gym, or climbing. The fact that I dress how I genuinely would in any other occasion while chasing fast times on trails in the Alps, or on the road of a big city marathon, is also what binds me the most to the essence of Satisfy.”
