How much is your outfit?
Words: Sebastian Nicu
»How much is your outfit?« This question is not only asked by dubious Fashion Vloggers and me in the »Dress Relief« podcast that I started with my friend Caiza. The rapper Kummer, whom some of you may know as the singer of the indie band Kraftklub, has also dealt with this question in his new single.
Life is super nice, where you wear your shoes
Life isn’t so nice where they sew your shoes.
The song »Wie viel ist dein Outfit wert?« (»How much is your outfit?«) refers to a trend that most people can only laugh about: Equipped with a smartphone and an external microphone, vloggers stroll around through the world’s high streets, looking for mostly underage boys and girls with strikingly branded expensive clothes, addressing them with phrases like »Yo, dope outfit, what did you pay for it?«. Whether the interviewee has combined the individual pieces even remotely well is of no importance. It’s all about the money. The more expensive the individual pieces are, the more compliments they get. The most popular brands: Balenciaga, Off White, Yeezy, Supreme.
Huge logos are mixed up and the whole thing is rounded off with black ripped jeans from Zara, because you can’t really flex with trousers. »Yeah, this is lit, how do you pay for it?« In 89% of the videos, the answer is the same: »Reselling«. Kummer hates this online phenomenon. That’s why he righteously denounces the niche and complains about the growing gap between the rich and the poor on a beat from BLVTH & Drunken Masters, refined with samples from said YouTube videos, which he demonizes in the track.
His album KIOX is officially released as of today, October 11. Happy Release Day, Kummer!
