HHV Out Of Office

Crisp air. Endless coastlines. Long summer evenings that seem to stretch forever. Just a few hours from Berlin, yet a world away. We headed to the Danish coast for the 6th edition of HHV Out Of Office, escaping to a small island connected by a single road and surrounded by sand in every direction.

There’s a particular kind of quiet that only exists at the edge of a continent. Not silence, exactly, the wind never really stops here, and the tide has its own rhythm, pulling in and out like a held breath. But it’s a quiet that lets you hear yourself again. No traffic. No notifications competing for attention. Just the soft static of waves and the occasional call of a gull overhead.

The island itself is barely there. A thin strip of land, tethered to the mainland by one narrow causeway that floods when the tide gets ambitious. On either side, dunes roll out into grass, then grass gives way to sand, and sand gives way to a horizon that doesn’t seem to end. It’s the kind of place that makes you recalibrate your sense of scale, where a four-hour drive from a city of millions deposits you somewhere that feels closer to the edge of the map.

By the time we packed up to head back toward Berlin, the version of “normal” we’d left behind already felt slightly foreign, proof, maybe, that the best trips aren’t the ones you document for proof of adventure, but the ones that quietly reset something inside you.
