New Balance 550 “Elevated Legacy Pack”
Words: Anne-Marie Becker
We can’t get enough of a once-forgotten New Balance silhouette from the late 1980s. Of course, we’re referring to the New Balance 550.
Since its founding in 1906, New Balance has specialized in creating high-quality footwear that offers optimal comfort, support and balance. In its early years, the Boston-based company became known for its remarkable footwear designs, engineered for performance running. Through the years, New Balance catered to the demands of athletes competing in tennis, baseball, and then for the first time in 1983 basketball.
First released in 1989, the 550 was a low-top style that followed the current trend in the basketball industry. Like today, the upper half of the 550 was covered in high-quality leather but featured perforated profile panels and lightweight mesh bases that guaranteed breathability. Thanks to its sturdy construction and design, the 550 offers unmatched support and stability. Nearly three decades after its original release, the New Balance 550 reappears on the sneaker market and has been considered the absolute It-model of the last seasons. That’s why we’re all the more excited to celebrate the release of the New Balance 550 “Elevated Legacy Pack” on August 4th together with our community.
To mark the occasion, we have teamed up with illustrator and graphic designer Oscar Grønner. The Oslo-based artist’s diverse work includes playful illustrations, drawings, as well as photographs and graphic designs. His illustrations developed for the launch of the “Elevated Legacy Pack” not only grace the front window of our store located on Grünberger Str. but are also featured on exclusive merchandise such as a poster and a tote bag.
The New Balance 550 “Elevated Legacy Pack” including all merchandise will be available exclusively at the HHV Store at Grünberger Str. 54 in Berlin starting Thursday, August 4th at 6 pm.
